Buyer Evaluations

UPDATE: Soon after spending some time with it I have decided to update my review. This device speedily became an absolute nightmare when that glitch appeared in their program that kept replicating the cameras. Soon after weeks of going back and forth with help via e-mail I was told the following.
1. You shouldn't have your SSID hidden.
2. You should not have any dashes or underscores in your SSID.
3. You ought to look at using simple WEP.
?!? Keep in mind that it worked fine just the way it was before their weird back end glitch. They deleted my account and we restarted from scratch numerous times. That device is now a paperweight. And a poor 1 at that given that it is so tiny. $130 wasted. I'm leaving a single additional star simply because I actually like that it uploads to YouTube and hope other agencies adhere to suit.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Beneficial: The finest issue about this device is that it functions. When you have it up and operating it records video and audio. The motion and audio alarms are a small quirky but they do perform. The YouTube compatibility is a Important PLUS. All other options are considerably even more expensive. The camera is surprisingly smaller and nicely built. The magnetic stand is cool and I favor it to those screw based tilt solutions that loosen following time.
The Negative: The monitoring limitation. It limits you to five minutes at a time when you are viewing remotely which I do not realize. You tap it once more and it begins over. Perhaps its a heating concern? Worse part of that is that it hardly ever works for the full 5 minutes anyway. It disconnects even when you have four or 5 bars seemingly at random.
The Ugly: The setup leaves a lot to be desired. When you 1st configure it, the device opens a unsecured wireless hotspot (it does not give any one access to something but itself) that Everyone can connect to which is a tiny unnerving. If a person recognizes that sort of device it is not beyond the realm of possibility that they could figure out how to connect and then have access to your camera. I don't know if the camera can be registered on several devices. When it is set up appropriately you can place it on a secured network but its those very first few minutes of vulnerability which could be disastrous if you are utilizing this for dwelling security.
The Summary: Some small complications take away from the general package BUT it honestly is the Finest remedy in this cost range right now. I rarely connect to view for extended periods of time but that YouTube recording tends to make up for it. Saving to a private remote account really is the safest bet for residence security and for $130 you genuinely can not beat that. The closest substitute is Dropcam which starts at $200 for video ONLY and NO RECORDING AT ALL. You can pay $9 a month for 1 week of motion activated backups or $25 for 30 and that really gets pricey rather speedily. iZON does that for zero cost, with audio and for $70 less for the hardware alone! I only hope they develop a spending budget outdoor night-vision capable resolution soon that is as discreet and simple to use as this camera.

I purchased mine directly from Stem at a slight greater cost than Amazon. The camera functions especially nicely for the value. I have really pricey Axis cameras that are a nightmare to setup - this is not. You log directly on to the camera's own WIFI to setup then log back into the main WIFI of your residence. Setup a account with Stem and your accomplished. All setup performed directly from my iPhone.
Cons:
video/audio lags about 20 secs.
Software locks up on occasion (google "finish activity on iphone" to restart just the app) as of four-five-2012 this is no longer an concern each IOS app and camera firmware (1.three) has resolved problem.
Pros:
Affordable
Good style (specifically the magnetic base)
Looks cool
Simple setup
